But some were rated higher depending on it's application. 1989 was not a high horsepower maybe 230 or torque motor if I recall correctly. I built a 73 2-bolt 454 with the stock cast crank that made 450+ and occasionally saw 6000 rpms. The HP level was well within limits, but I agree; keep your HP peak (cam choice) at a level that doesn't constantly require more than about 5500 rpms to get your power. I'm quite certain it would be a cast crank.This is done with a diff ratio of 3.29 and a sprocket ratio of .89 (33 teeth/37 teeth). 3.29 or 3.69 gearing is accomplished by leaving the diff alone and changing the sprocket ratio to 1.00 (35/35) and 1.12 (37/35) respectively.
